Travel and Logistics

The Lake Arrowhead Conference Center, located in the San Bernardino Mountains, is ~100 miles from Los Angeles International (LAX) and ~50 miles from Ontario International (ONT) airport. See http://www.uclaconferencecenter.com/lacc/location.html for specific directions. There are other smaller airports in the area: Long Beach (LGB), Orange County (SNA), and Burbank (BUR). Each serves a subset of US carriers. Lots of interesting details about using LA airports are available at http://www.lawa.org/welcomeLAX.aspx.

Be advised. The traffic in Los Angeles is formidable and often unpleasant (although those of you traveling from LAX will pass such cultural monuments as the “Hollywood” sign and the Staples Center, site of the Michael Jackson memorial. You will likely have plenty of time to contemplate them from the Santa Monica (10) Freeway). Friday afternoon travel can be particularly special.

We have arranged two complementary buses from LAX to Lake Arrowhead, departing from the LAX Marriott (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/laxap-los-angeles-airport-marriott) at 13:00 on June 11, 2010. The buses are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and you must indicate your intention to take the bus at the time of registration. Seating is limited. The same buses will also provide transport back to the LAX Marriott on June 15, leaving the Conference Center at 13:00.

An alternative to renting a car or taking the complementary bus from LAX is SuperShuttle (http://www.supershuttle.com).
As of February 2010, their rates are:
LAX --> Conf Center $114 for 1 person ($9 each additional person, PREPAID)
ONT --> Conf Center $94 for 1 person ($9 each additional person, PREPAID)
Supershuttle is also available to the Conference Center from the Long Beach, Orange County, and Burbank airports. Call 800-258-3826 for prices.

About the Conference Center
